The Practical Guide to FDDI -- Putting It All Together

OK, so you have your concentrator (if you'll be using one), the cards are installed in the machines you want on the FDDI ring, you have cables whose connectors match the items you'll be connecting, and are of the right modeness and wavelengthness (remember that if you have one of the rare single-mode cards, you'll not only need single-mode cable, you'll need another single-mode card on the other end). Let's go!

If you're working with DAS equipment only, you've probably figured it out by now:

If you're using a concentrator, it's not much harder. Once again, note that if you're connecting a DAS-capable card to a concentrator, you can use either the A or B port as you wish.

Here's a diagram of my network. The dotted lines indicate equipment which I have but which isn't hooked up at the moment, but if I did so, that's how I would do it.

Note that FDDI is being bridged to other network types in my setup. Go on to the next page for more on this subject.
